I came across a problem on a couple of John Deere 2054 Loggers, set up as a log loaders. One of the tracks kept momentarily locking up, always the same side, just for a second, just in one direction. The problem was the brake shuttle. There is a ball type shuttle valve in the rear cover of the motor, there is a replaceable seat, the ball (.312") and a fixed seat that is machined into the cover. The fixed seat pounds up pretty rough. It's hard to see without taking the cover off the final drive. The seat needs to be machined or have the cover replaced. This same problem has occured on two machines for the same customer, it may be a pretty common problem.

There are two other areas that could be problamatic, the brake spool has a small orifice at either end that could plug up, one side plugging up could cause a similar problem as above, the other potential problem is the two speed spool also located in the cover, it also has a very small orifice in it. Plugging of this orifice could cause problems with motors dropping out of high speed, this problem would affect both travel directions though.
